What You Should Know

"Uninsurable Drivers"

How many drivers will you lose from your fleet when they get labeled "Uninsurable"? Uninsurable Drivers is the newest term headed your way from insurance companies. The insurance companies will use the rankings of drivers in the new CSA 2010 program’s DSMS to declare some drivers as uninsurable. The label will be affixed to those drivers that have the highest ranking under CSA 2010 and are deemed to present the greatest risk on the road. The expectations are 100,000 drivers will get this label and lose their jobs as a result. The driver pool is depleted today and cannot withstand another purge of drivers.

When CSA 2010 is implemented in November 2010, FMCSA estimates that carriers will have an 8.5 times greater chance of incurring heavier fines and being mandated on what their operation must do to become compliant. Five of the Top 10 most frequently cited violations in 2009 were Hour of Service (HOS) related, with "Driver Log Form and Manner" and "Driver Record Of Status Duty Not Current" the most frequent.
